Hi. I have a question and I know alot of you have so much info regarding fertility. If Darling Husband and I aren’t PG this cycle then I need to go in for bloodwork next cycle. I would go in for CD3 and CD18-20 to get blood drawn.
What are they testing for exactly? What time of day is ideal for getting blood drawn?
I’m over 35 (we have been trying since mid-august but I was only off BC as of July). I”m starting to get antsy and as much as I read I”m still not sure what my next steps should be. Do they test progesterone levels? Would Darling Husband get tested?, etc. I’m just so uncertain (i think mainly because I didn’t think it would take so long.)
I’ve looked a little on the infertility thread but I’m overwhelmed since it’s been a well established group. Any info would be awesome. Thank you!

@Wispy: It’s been a few months since I got that panel, but I think they are checking the quality of your eggs, FSH and your estradiol levels. My doc also checked my thyroid function as well on cd 3. I don’t remember having to fast or go in the morning…

@Wispy: Basically they’re just checking a bunch of hormones. Some of the hormones can reveal how many eggs you have left. I’m not sure exactly what the other ones tell. It definitely doesn’t matter what time of day you go.

@Wispy: The CD18-20 test is probably a test of your progesterone level to see if you’re ovulating.

@Wispy: Your RE will suggest a SA and do a panel work up to check hormonals levels. Check out the 6+months over thread because there has been a recent discussion.
In my case, we decided to skip my blood panel work because I’m 42 and I obviously have diminished ovarian reserve. We are still doing a SA and HSG. Since we’re most likely going to IVF this summer, I’m happy to not go through all the testing.

On day 3, they are basically making sure it is ok to get you started. It is the “baseline” hormones on day 3. To see how your cycle starts, for lack of a better explanation. Any time of day is fine.
Once you start treatments, Day 3 bloodwork/ultrasound is to make sure you can start the meds. They check just to be 100% positive you are not pregnant from the previous cycle, and that you have no cysts, etc.
Days 18-20 are to see if you ovulated, as Bunny said.
Do not be overwhelmed by the infertility threads!!! I was a regular on there for quite some time, and everyone there is WONDERFUL. They know their stuff and are always welcoming and helpful to new “members” of the thread!!
I went through all the initial testing, and then a year and a half of clomid with both natural and iui cycles. Please never hesitate to ask me anything.

Thank you so much ladies!!!!! I’m 8-9dpo today. So hope to test middle of next week (I have a 15-16 day luteal phase). Still hoping for a BFP. But I feel a little more informed now. Thank you. And I may be checking into the 6 mth and infertility threads.

Please do come on the IF and 6-moth thread if you need us. I’m over 35 as well and I probably waited too long to get help so it’s good that you’re being proactive.
