My FH and I are getting married May 21, 2010 and are looking for reception venue. We have looked into Brucemore (max capacity is 75) and Coe College Alumni House (college event planned that weekend). I was really hoping Coe would be available because the hall is beautiful. We have information on IBEW hall and Teamsters but were wondering if there is anywhere else anyone knows of? Also, caterers???
Best of Luck to ALL of you Iowa Brides! Happy Planning!

I live in Marion and I’m getting married May 9th in Haiwatha and the reception is at the Clarion. We just moved to the area last summer and started planning the wedding so we had a hard time finding places. The Clarion, Best Western,Crown Plaza and Marriott are all hotel options. There’s some golf course options depending on the size of the wedding. Hunter’s Ridge is in Marion, I think 100 people would be the max I’d want to have there.Indian Creek and Elm Crest are other glof club options. Ara gallery is another place we looked at, it’s a less traditional space and not good if there will be kids but it’s really pretty. Oh and the muesum of Art..but that is also probably a bit on the small side for you.
Since we ended up at the Clarion we didn’t do much research into caterers. We chose the Clarion because all of our guests are out of town so we wanted to be in or close to a hotel. The Best Western was booked before we started looking, we weren’t impressed with the Crown Plaza, we didn’t like the coordinator at the Marriott and the Marriott is a lot more expensive then the rest, and all the non hotel options were too far from hotels for our tasts and we werent successful in finding afordable transportation options for the guests. So far working with the Clarion has been easy to work with.
Hope that helps!
