I don’t know what flowers  you are using, but what about stings of white and yellow daisies?  You  could get fake flowers and use the heads.  String them vertically on fishing wire it would look like it was raining flowers.

you could just do satin ribbon…or candles hung from ribbon….colorful paper cranes would be pretty too…

What about wrapping Christmas lights (the long string ones) around each entire beam or strung perpendicular to the beams?? You have to use a ton of them otherwise it might look too sparse. I’ve seen a photo of a reception with this type of decor and it looks really really nice. Tried to look for the pic but can’t find it.

I don’t know about using lanterns since I think they might hang too low.

I’d go with either draped fabric between them beams or flower balls if you’re having a girly wedding.

what about tissue paper pom poms go to martha stewart’s website or she had a really cute idea that is not a chinese lantern, but kind of the same idea with luminarie bags.

I wanted to put these up at my wedding but downtown LA has a strict fire code… maybe you can pull it off at your location.

If you check out this wedding planner, they used them really nicely. You’ll see an example on their home page, 4th picture. You can replace the candles with flowers. If you go to the W Hotel near UCLA you’ll see an example of it hanging from deadwood, if the florist still has them up. They did a good job.

have you thought about instead of hanging something from the beams you can draw the eye up with strategic lighting.  Also I don’t know what your centerpieces are like but if they are tall the eye will be drawn up that way.
