Oh dear, I am so sorry. But let him make it up to you, even if it is a proposal after the fact. He obviously cares about you, so if he proposes, it’s because he wants to, not because he was “pressured”. Maybe your reaction was the real wake-up call for him. Let’s hope:)

I had a similar thing happen.  I didn’t think we were “there” yet, but one of those ring-like boxes came out.

I’m now of the opinion that the cube-shaped jewelry box should only be used for engagement rings.  Everyone else should be a rectangle.

I’m sorry, honey.  🙁

Oh no, I’m so sorry for you.

That would hurt me too. Men can be so clumsy and dense some times.

I hope noone jumps on the “why can’t you just be grateful” bandwagon because that so itsn’t what this is about. You’re allowed to feel disappointed, especially with a build up like you had finding the box etc.

Ugh.

But I agree with 2TC, let him make it up to you, proposal or not, and you can put this behind you with no grudges…

This!

He probably had no clue that it looked like a proposal. Men are so clueless sometimes haha. Dont stress over it. If he spent that much time on a birthday imagine how awesome your proposal will probably be!!!! I say just have an amazing birthday and relax! You will get your day! *hugs*

I’m sorry, I can imagine how disappointing that must be! Men are clueless sometimes. There should be a law that prevents an unengaged and unmarried man from buying jewelry that comes in small square boxes, unless it’s an engagement ring.

I hope you will get your proposal soon!  I’m sure it will feel great, despite his little birthday faux-pas!

Boys are dumb. End of story.

Sorry this happened to you! I’m sure he’ll propose when he feels like it’s right, and now that he knows how upset you were about the non-ring, he’ll get it right.

Oh no!  I’m so sorry,  I know he had no bad intentions but let him make it up to you!  I’m sure he feels terrible about the situation as well.

It will come- he obviously loves you, don’t give up.

Wow, he really didn’t realize that he set up an entire proposal scenario and then gave you a locket?

Wow.

I am really sorry for your disappointment. I hope he gets a clue soon.

Oh sweetie…

I was just as anxious and excited when I clicked on your link… and then my heart broke for you when I read the first line.  Like PP’s said, maybe this is the wakeup call he needed.  I mean everything that you told us (and when you showed us the pic) pointed towards what we thought was a proposal.  You have every right to feel the way you do.  Thank you for keeping us updated… And you know the Bees are here for you!

Men… it seems like other bees have had this happen to them including myself.

I remember the disappointment and sadness, as well.  Hang in there, it eventually happened for me.  I thought I would feel the same way with a proposal later on.  But actually when he finally did propose (months and months later), once he got down on his knee nothing else mattered, I didn’t remember all of that sadness and everything that happened before. It was still truly special, so take that from someone that had a similiar experience(s).  Best of luck to you.
