3 or 4 glasses with a piece of acrylic on top is something I’ve done before.  You could put a bloom in the glasses.

Well, I’m not sure what you had in mind for wine glasses, but if you wanted to use glassware for a centrepiece instead of flowers or candles or something else, you could consider doing a small champagne fountain setup in the middle of the table.  Something like this:

Champagne Fountain

Otherwise, the idea that came to mind was using wine bottles.  What you do is buy some wines that come in cool bottles and drink at your leisure ahead of time.  Then instead of putting out the bottles for recycling, do the following:

1. rinse them out and let them dry

2. stick a candle in the top of each one and light the candles.  As the wax melts, it will drip down the candles and then around the bottles and harden.  (I would suggest using candles in a color wax that will complement the wedding colors and the wine bottle)

3. burn the candle so that quite a bit of wax has dripped onto the bottle.  It looks kind of stupid (like a mistake) if there’s just a tiny bit of wax on the bottle, but it looks really cool if there’s quite a bit and it’s clear that it’s intentional.

It would look very cool if you grouped together a few bottles of different shapes and sizes at each table with candles in them, or mix bottles-as-candleholders with actual candleholders and candles.  That might make quite a cool centrepiece and give you great ambiance with candlelight.
