I haven’t been on the Weddingbee boards in over a year probably, but happily back to help a friend plan a destination wedding in Charlotte, NC! She and her fiance are planning to move to Charlotte in late summer and want to get married this fall.
But she is having a heck of a time trying to find a venue to meet their needs – who knew October was such a popular month to get married! Thought I would throw this out there for suggestions…
She’s having a 75 guest wedding, wants the ceremony and reception to be on the same site, wants to be easy to access for guests without them having to rent cars (as 90% of guests will be out of town), and they also want to be able to bring in their own caterer. I’m thinking like a garden, barn or historic home setting, but most of the ones they’ve found so far have a preferred caterer and aren’t flexible . The groom to be is a bit of a foodie and really wants to work with his own caterer to create a unique menu so that is a must.
Any thoughts or places to start looking? We’d love some local advice!

I got married right outside Charlotte, I know that’s not ideal but they are lesser known so they might still be open!
It’s where the Patriot was filmed we loved it: http://chmuseums.org/hightower-hall-hb/
Here is our wedding there: http://www.stylemepretty.com/2011/07/19/brattonsville-wedding-by-ben-q-photography/

We attended a wedding in Charlotte this fall in a botanical garden. I can’t remember the name, but the venue was awesome-wonderfully landscaped, paths, fountains, etc. If they need a photographer, I’d recommend elizabethscott photography out of charlotte. They’re shooting my wedding! 🙂

I would bet it’s Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens 🙂

My sister got married at the Firethorne Country Club and it was beautiful! It’s a little outside of Charlotte, but to have it in a garden area, it will be difficult to have something downtown.
Also, a lady at work’s daughter got married here.
