My fiance and I are in the process of deciding on a venue for our August 2014 wedding. We’re looking at venues where we can hold both the ceremony and reception. At 2 of the places we visited, the time allotted is 5hrs with a fee for each additional hr for the ceremony and reception. Is 5 hrs would be enough time or do we need more?
I’m feeling overwhelmed and could use the outside advice because my mom is stuck on the amount of time we need and keeps saying that we need almost 2 hours between for photos alone.

5 hours is plenty of time I think. We did the same our venue is for both the ceremony and reception. However our venue is booked for the weekend because its at a lake. Officially our reception will be roughly 4-5 hours but I am sure family that are staying at the cabins/cottages there will celebrate with us for longer.

We had our space for 5-1/2 hours (1/2 hour ceremony, 1 hour cocktail hour, 4 hour reception). If we hadn’t had an after-party, I think an extra hour would have been a good idea. But you know your crowd best. Our friends and family like to party.

Generally receptions are 1 hour for cocktail hour and 4 hours for dinner/partying. I would want at least 6 hours if you’re having the ceremony there since most are about half an hour long. If the 7th hour wasn’t going to break the budget I would spring for it.
