I’m trying to figure out what to do for music at our (Super Mario themed) wedding and reception, and could use some advice.
For the ceremony, I have basically three songs in mind. For either the pre-ceremony music or the bridesmaid/groomsman processional I’d like to use a remix of the Dire Dire Docks music from Mario 64 (this one is especially nice: http://youtube.com/watch?v=dKc2AXmUEk0 ). Then for either the entire processional or just my fiancé and I walking in I’m thinking about using the Space Junk Galaxy music from Mario Galaxy (http://youtube.com/watch?v=EuYNxzSFRk8). Our recessional music will naturally have to be an upbeat version of the original Mario Bros. theme, then for the tentative first dance (still not sure if we’re even doing it because I can’t dance worth a nickel) the song will be an orchestral version of the “Underwater Waltz”, also from the original Mario Bros (http://youtube.com/watch?v=oLuHFCKnbvk).
Our reception will not be very traditional. We’re not really “dance party” kind of people, and neither are most of our family and other guests. Also, it’s a 1:00 wedding on a Sunday, very kid-friendly, no alcohol. We’re going to do an Italian soda bar, board games, a piñata, and coloring books/treat bags for the kids. There’s also a public pool on site so I’m telling people to bring their bathing suits too if they’d like to swim. Even though we won’t have a dance floor, my fiancé is putting together a Spotify playlist to have some background music during the reception.
What I’m worried about is, who is going to make sure the music gets played when it is supposed to? And what sort of amplification will we need? The ceremony and reception will be in the same place, a 100-foot long ballroom. As far as I know there’s no sound system in place there. We don’t need (or want) a traditional DJ, but I’m not sure about asking one of our friends/guests to manage it.
I’ve seen a a lot of advice for people DIY-ing their music, but almost all of that is geared toward people having big, loud dance party receptions. Have any of you had a more laid-back reception with DIY music, and how did you handle the logistics on the day of?
