The guests will just be seated from the other side of the pew and have to scooch along the pew.

yea, they’ll need to be seated from the opposite side.

I once went to a wedding that did something similar and the newlyweds walked down the aisle with a pair of scissors and they cut the ribbon and did their receiving line row by row. Cute idea, but it was not fun to just stand there waiting for the couple to get to the end of the rows

They just come in from the other side. I’ve seen it done when there’s an aisle runner of flower petals and they didn’t want them to get messed up. It worked fine!

Normally you have ushers seat them from the outer side, this is how we done it and my wedding except it was on shepards hooks, i worried about it being a bother to the guests but at the end of the day its about what you want,
