Hydrangeas should still be available for a September wedding. You could place one head of hydrangea in each mason jar. Easy peasy DIY.

Hydrangea Tinted Purple Flower Purple Tinted Hydrangea is a round shaped flower comprised of numerous clusters of smaller flowers. This brightly colored tinted Hydrangea flower features purple blooms accented with slightly darker shades of purple. The beauty of this flower can stand alone or be combined with other flowers to make stunning wedding bouquets, table centerpieces or flower arrangements.

If you choose, you could set the mason jar with hydrangea on top of a block of wood which you could likely get free.

Check out your site ahead of time to see if it will be too windy for a runner.

You can search all Craigslist sites at the same time by going to http://www.google.com

enter        site:craigslist.org

then add what you are looking for  e.g shepherd hooks

Here are the results of that search:

I would personally be wary of a runner. It might blow all over the place with lake wind. What about a few petals?!!

And you could make a simpler one of these: You could get a trellis at HomeDepot/ Lowes and do the “flower curtain” thing:

The natural beauty is so nice, so you don’t need a whole lot.  A simple arch (you can go to Home Depot and order wood to cut and build one), paint white or other color and then decorate with colored ribbon, tulle, a few flowers or wrap in garland.  Simple white folding chairs with colored sashes and get a real carpet runner and edge the corners with mason jars, candlelight and the like.  You can get one from sears or home depot or similar store for  around $69.  You can use the carpet in your hall later or sell it.  You could also use lovely country natural style invites which sets the tone of your day.  Here’s some photos for inspiration.  I’m in New York.  Let me know if you need help.  All the best in your planning!
