@dearmissie: I am in the same boat but almost a month away from saying I do!

We are going to have a guitar player play music for the ceremony and maybe the cocktail hour.

We also want to be more non-traditional. I don’t mind a few traditional songs like Amazing Grace and Ava Maria but not too many.

I have no idea what songs to request from the guitar player.

I don’t want to ask for something that he can’t play.

Do you ladies have any ideas? Here were some of mine; please tell me if you think these are rediculous:

#34 by Dave Matthews for Guests Taking Their Seats

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones

At Last by Ella Fitzgerald

The Luckiest by Ben Folds Five

The Beatles When I am Sixty-Four and The Long and Winding Road

I need all the help I can get. I don’t know what to do for the prelude, processional, ceremony, recessional or postlude!

I found these sample ceremonies to be really useful in writing ours – http://www.indiebride.com/kvetch/index.php?t=msg&th=27325&start=0&S=cfadecc7d51a1df255ef29bf67846efd

We ordered our ceremony as follows:

Declaration of Intent (the “Will you, XXX, take this woman to be your wedded wife? Will you promise to love her, comfort her, honour and respect her, and be faithful to her all the days of your life?” “I will.” part) – we don’t have any “I do” but I imagine that is just a different wording of this bit of the ceremony

Ring Warming (well, we’ll get it started going around the guests here)

Two Readings (by friends)

Two Readings (by bride and groom)

Affirmation of the Community (essentially “XXX’s parents, will you welcome XXX as a member of your family, and grant your blessings, love and acceptance?”…….“Family and friends, will you also give XXX and XXX your blessing and pledge to them your continued love and support?”)

Exchange of Rings

Seal it with a kiss!

We’re also having a guitarist for the ceremony music. We’re seating the family to “What a Wonderful World,” then using “Somewhere Beyond the Sea” for the Processional (a nod to our five years of trans-Atlantic LDR) and then the Recessional will be “Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Grows)” just because we love that song, and it’s so happy! I think my parents thought I was looney for picking those songs (“but you’re not Rosemary? Nobody will get it!”) but they’re special to us and that’s that! I think all of your song ideas are quite pretty – perhaps you could ask the guitarist what love songs he already has arranged?
