my church just requested that we don’t make every single song choice "western" music and that we incorporate some normal churchy songs into the ceremony. I was scared to say it at first as well, but I was very quick to say that we only want to change a few songs to something not churchy. they were very nice about it.

also, about the singers and musicians from outside the church, most churches don’t mind having them there as long as they respect the sanctity of the church and make sure they coordinate with the music director.

so i would just check with your church…if it makes you feel better, you can always get the phone number of your church music director, have your Fiance call (so that they don’t recognize your voice) and ask them what they think of letting you have at a couple of non traditional church songs. that way, you can be more confident when you bring it up in your actual meeting.

good luck!
