We’ve hired a harpist for our ceremony and I am struggling to find the right music for the wedding party’s processional, bridal processional, and the recessional. Our harpist says “here comes the bride” doesn’t quite work well with the harp, because people are used to hearing big organ sounds and the harp falls short of that. I am planning to use Pachabel’s Canon for one of the processionals, but now don’t know what to use for the other, or the recessional. Our harpist sent us a CD of a few songs but I don’t really like any of them. Suggestions??

my friend had her harpist do "seasons of love" from rent. oh my gosh, totally unexpected, right? but wow, it sounded sooo good! you might want to just pick out a couple of different songs that you love and ask your harpist if she can play it. i don’t think it has to be a classical song at all!

Ooh a harpist! how pretty! 🙂
I suggest that you do a google search on "wedding music harp" (or something similiar) and you may find something you like! I just did the search and found a harpist’s website where she lists her repertoire:
hope it helps!

Thanks for your suggestions- aoedorothee, this is so weird, but our programs are going to be playbills and we’re using a quote from seasons of love on the front inside cover! so i had asked my fiance about using that song, or another broadway song- but he really didn’t go for it. he wants traditional! so I think i just really need some more classical music suggestions. the harpist’s cd only had a few and I didn’t like them.
I hope to hear some more suggestions!! Thanks!!

We have a harp/classical guitar combo for the ceremony and cocktail hour. One website I found helpful was CD Baby (odn’t even remember how I found this website!). By no means have we finalized our selection so I look forward more suggestions.
KP – your link was super helpful! Printed it out to review at home tonight. Thanks!

- Wedding: May 2007 - Wynbrick Center - a historic mansion in my hometown.
I wouldn’t say ‘here comes the bride’ doesn’t sound right on harp at all! In fact, I had it in my wedding! 😀 Now, harpists’ styles will vary and all, but I thought it was beautiful. In my mind, it sounds stuffy and pompous on the organ (hope I’m not offending anybody who chose to do that!) and elegant, graceful, and subtle on the harp.
I’ll see if I can find the list of songs from our processional and recessional and post it here later…
