We’re having a live musician for our ceremony and a DJ for the reception, but our situation is a little different because we’re having the ceremony at one place and the reception at another. I guess I generally like the idea of a live musician for the ceremony more, but is cost an issue for you guys? Do you think a live musician would be worth the extra expense (or is it about the same to ask your DJ to add extra time)?

If cost wasn’t an issue I would say string quartet for the ceremony and cocktail hour, but if you’re budget is tight it would be almost as nice to just have the extra time with the DJ

It sounds like cost isn’t a major issue, so my vote is for the string quartet during the ceremony.

I wouldn’t base your decision on whether or not your guests would notice the live musicians. What do you want for your ceremony music? If the cost of the string quartet is worth it to you, go for it! We’re having a classical guitarist for our ceremony, and I’m so excited. People have tried to talk us out of it, saying that its an “unnecessary” expense, but I honestly couldn’t picture myself walking down the aisle to anything else now that the thought is in my head. 🙂 I think that’s the type of thing you’ll have to think about to come to your decision.
