The live instruments sound great but you know you can still play off an ipod right? We are using a battery powered PA amp (it’s one speaker, not that big). Super easy and it charges by plugging into the wall before you use it. I know they rent them at long and mcquade here so you could try that of you really do want to save money. If I were to rent one here it would probably cost about $30-40 I think. We own one (traynor brand) because they are so fun to take to the beach and stuff but they are definitely rentable.

We paid for an acoustic guitarist.  How I chose was I listened to the songs I wanted to use on youtube being played by all different insturments.  But if you really want the cello, do that.

@MASPA:  We also had an acoustic guitar 🙂

I say go for the cello if you love it. You could probably wait for the street performers but I would be worried about them showing up if they don’t have an established business.

I like the sounds produced by either one, both would sound good alone. A harp looks prettier if you are a visual person lol. At one point during my planning I considered having a string duo or trio. The only difference to me was the cost, the harp with any second instrument costs more.

If it’s the cello you love, I say do what you love!  It also helps that its easier on the wallet.

We had an accoustic guitar & violin duo and they cost the same as your harp quote.  Really it’s about personal taste, yours & your FI’s, not anyone else.

Personally, I wouldn’t trust a street performer on the most important day of my life….

I voted harp. Sooo beautiful. I don’t think an ipod can compare to live music. We are having an organ play our ceremony music and it just wouldn’t be the same to have Canon in D over the speakers.
