We just found a place that was very “us”.  We are both into history and are very much into the history of St. Louis.  The place we choose is an old historic manison that has been restored.

We both established what we did and didn’t want, what our budget was, and began browsing online. For us, we didn’t want anything religious or country-club-ish and we didn’t want the ceremony and reception to be in the same room, but we didn’t want it far away, either. We wanted something historical. Our budget was under $2000. So, we found a 1920s historical downtown area and the ceremony will be in one room and the reception in another room in a different building, within walking distance. And it’s for $1900 for 11 hours in total!

We aren’t religious, so we veered away from a church. We just looked for venues using searches and scanning through the portfolios of local wedding photographers. At some point, Stan Hywet occurred to me. It’s a beautiful mansion with expansive grounds built in the late 19th century.

It was out of budget, and I really didn’t want to plan on an outdoor wedding, but I fell in love with how beautiful it was as a ceremony spot. I used to go there at Christmas with my family when I was a little girl to see the gardens all lit up with lights, so it has sentimental value as well.
