In what way was it painful? A smear shouldn’t be painful, at most it should only be uncomfortable.

Lol, well, the epidural helps.  ๐Ÿ™‚  Cervical checks never really hurt for me, but I swear my doctor has the gentlest touch.  Even when she did the membrane sweeps, I could hardly feel it!

@rachiecakes:  Paps always were a bit uncomfortable for me b/c I have a super high cervix and retroverted uterus.  At my 8 week exam I was squirming all over the place – it felt like bad pinching!!  Not looking forward to these exams later in pregnancy….

My first one I almost didn’t feel, but last week I had a second one and it hurt as well… I’m hoping for a better one this week.

@rachiecakes: the baby will be coming out, not going in, so it won’t hurt.. I swear! Innocent

Cervical checks sucked, at least for me. Towards the end, when I had to go every week, I wasn’t able to schedule my OB for every visit and had to use different doctors. My OB was very gentle, but the alternate I had at 38 weeks just jammed her hand right up there and believe me, it hurt! I never want to see that lady again.

I hate to tell you this, but the cervical checks don’t get any more pleasant when you’re hooked to a fetal monitor and having contractions. But, they’re over with quickly at least, and you’ll be so excited that maybe it won’t seem so bad.

Unless you are having serious issues, you don’t need regular cervical checks.  You can decline.  Knowing is you are dilated isn’t really an indicator of impending labor.

I had to go to the ER the other night and they did FIVE checks while I was there!  I’m still sore. Lol.  It does help to put your hands under your hips… it presents your cervix better for them.  I know how you feel!!

This is one thing I am not looking forward to. I plan to ask my OB not to do cervical checks when I reach that stage in my pregnancy.
