I I recently learned last week that I’m a CF gene carrier. Naturally, I’m so worried. No known history in my family or husbands family. I understand all the statistics and I know my husbands chances of testing positive are low. He will be getting tested next week.
How many of you were carriers and your significant other wasn’t? Just looking for some positive insight…

I have CF, let me know if you have any questions. My Fiance has not been tested yet, we won’t get him tested until we’re closer to TTC.

My husband has the BRCA1 mutation so I understand how scary all this information must be for you. Hopefully your husbands tests are negative and you don’t have to worry. If he is positive, then you have options. Hugs and speedy tests!!

cgood : i am a carrier for certain illnesses; and some illnesses have skipped us. Anything is uncertain, and our medical team (from my hubby and my side) feels reassuring and supportive 🙂

I am a CF carrier and my husband is not. We are both Jewish with Eastern European ancestry and we have a healthy 5 month old baby boy. Good luck with your DH’s test!

I’m also a CF carrier- had a comprehensive genetic testing panel (281 diseases and this was the only one that came back positive) completed before I was pregnant. Husband went for testing almost immediately after and was negative. Found out I was pregnant literally a few days after his test came back. I’m almost 28 weeks now and baby, as we know it, is fine.

When I was about 15 weeks pregnant I realized that my dad is a Tay Sachs carrier, which gave me a 50% chance of being a carrier. It was highly unlikely that my non-Jewish husband would also be a carrier, but I flipped out!! Luckily it turned out that I was not a carrier, but it was an anxious week! It’s good that you’re figuring it out now, and I’m sure your husband won’t be a carrier, but even if he is, you can do IVF with PGD and make sure your kiddos don’t have it. Good luck!!!

cgood : I just came across this thread now – I actually had blood taken over the weekend to see if I carry the CF gene (the test also sees whether I’m a carrier of the fragile X syndrome and spinal muscular atrophy genes). There is no history of any of these conditions in my family to our knowledge, but I still have this fear that I’m going to be a carrier of something. We haven’t started TTC yet; my GP recommended getting tested just in case (and if it turns out we’re both carriers, then we can have a game plan in place).
Good luck with your husband’s tests, I have my fingers crossed for you that everything will be fine!
