I had barbies and played with them as well as stuffed animal toys more than baby dolls.

My parents have a video of me on my 4th birthday receiving one of those “baby born” dolls (meant to resemble a real infant that you’re meant to feed and I think it peed as well) and my reaction was one of pure disgust.

Im sitting there holding it by its headband as mum is cutting it out of the box and then I toss it to the side to open the next gift which was a board game lol.

Safe to say I knew early on I didn’t want children lol

I loved my Cabbage Patch Kids….. But even at about 8 years of age I thought I wouldn’t like to have children.

This is interesting and I’ve never thought about that. I played with dolls such as barbie, but never with baby dolls. I even remember when I was with my parents at their friends house and their daughter had a baby doll where you were suppose to change diapers and so on. I remember thinking it was just weird doing that on a doll since they obviously don’t pee or poop.

In school I remember most of my girl friends already had plans for how many children they were going to have when they grow up. I never had these thoughts.

I’m 32 and I have two sister at age 34 and 40. Non of us have children. I have been with my husband for almost 8 years, the 34 y old have had some shorter relationships, and the 40 y old has been with her boyfriend for I think 13 years or something. My brother (42) have two kids, and I think those are the only grand children my parents will have, even though they have four children them selfs.

I know this post is from 4 months ago but it’s so interesting I just had to chime in! I never played with baby dolls as a kid. I was really into My Little Pony, stuffed animals and animal figurines. To me this is one of the earlier signs that I was meant to have pets instead of kids 🙂

rusticchic212 :  I was and am the same way! I have two older brothers and I had one doll when I was very little and they smashed its face in on my bed post. I never wanted a doll again and just had stuffed animals.

I don’t recall, but apparently I was the only 4-5 year old at my montessori day care allowed in the infant area.  Apparently I was super gentle and enjoyed helping out more than going outside and running around.

The only dolls I really remember playing with were barbies.

Not CFBC, but just commenting to say I never played with dolls as a kid and actually despised them. They freaked me out, and if someone would buy me one I would hide it in my closet so I didn’t have to even look at it. The baby dolls were just beyond boring to me, and I never was interested in playing “mom” or anything like that, and the fancier dolls were just so creepy to me…like I think I had an actual phobia of them.

Now, I’m not someone who gushes over everyone’s baby and wants to hold them all, but I’m excited to have my own and have definitely become more maternal as I’ve grown older…so I’d say in my case there’s no correlation between the dolls & babies thing.

CFBC, here.  I loved fashion dolls (Barbie, etc) but even though I was given baby dolls (Betsy Wetsie, Cabbage Patch, etc), I never played with them.  I remember getting a Cabbage Patch kid and being really confused.. like “But what does it do?”

catapple :

I had Barbie, but I was in it for the clothes.  Baby dolls–no interest.  I’ve never felt any attraction to babies, and toddlers–yech.  I absolutely hate it when people try to get me to hold their babies.  I get that it’s a gesture.  But, please.  Leave me alone.  When I say, “No thank you”, I mean it.

Exactly why I’ll never run for office–all that baby kissing.

You just sparked a memory in me!  I loved horse figurines!  No baby dolls, but horse figurines.

I had a bucket of dolls that literally sat in the corner collecting dust.  I loved my stuffed animals, and now have 2 cats and desperately want a dog.  My mom knew I was a cat lady when I was 3 years old…..

Although I do have a child I never played with baby dolls or barbies.  I actually hated them, all of them.  Instead I played with puzzles, legos and transformers. I also did play with my little ponies but I was always obsessed with animals (I wanted to be a vet).  I’ve never been interested in babies either, but did end up with my own, but I generally don’t gush over other babies.
