I have read countless threads, blogs, articles on wedding decor and I’m quite surprised that no one writes about this topic: what are the most comfortable reception chairs? What about the comfort of your guests who will have to sit for 3+ hrs????
I just wrote another post about my great find for (cheap) chair back decor at ~46 cents per chair – but my questions to my fellow bees is: Are brown folding metal chairs too uncomfortable for wedding guests? Should I buy/rent cushions for them? Have my family spread the word to bring their own?

Welcome to the Hive! Is there a reason they would be sitting for 3+ hours straight? If you are talking about the reception, then I wouldn’t worry about them at all. People will be up moving around, getting drinks, dancing, chatting, so they really are not sitting nonstop all that time and while they will not be in their lazyboys, they will be just fine with the folding chairs as they are.

tksjewelry: Thanks for talking some sense into me! You have a point. Chairs without pads should be fine.

On the opposite side of the coin, why assume they will be doing all that? Getting drinks shouldn’t take them away from their tables too long unless you plan for really long lines. Some people don’t dance. Even when chatting, many will remain at their table or go sit at other tables with fellow guests once there’s room.
If you can’t afford cushions, then you can’t afford them. But, if you can afford to rent or buy some, then consider it based on how you actually think your family will participate. I think asking people to bring their own is rather tacky, so I don’t recommend that route.
