I know a lot of people RAVE about the fancy chairs, but I’m going to be honest… I went to a wedding last year and I couldn’t begin to tell you about their chairs.  I put my butt on it, I ate, I got up and danced, but at no point did I scrutinize what KIND of chair I put my butt on.  I was just happy to take a seat.  It could have been a metal folding chair for all I care!

I’ve been to many weddings and honestly I don’t ever look at the chairs and think “this could be better” it’s a chair as long as it doesn’t break then it has served it’s purpose. I’d save the $300 and use it else where in your budget!

@DaneLady:  This. This this this. I never pay attention to the chairs. I sit in it. I don’t care what my butts on just make sure it’s not the ground. Laughing

I did chiavari charis at the last minute and so glad that I did. Do many guests remember the chairs? Not really. But I noticed it and I think it pulled my reception look together. Plus, if you can get them for only $300, I say do it! Mine were $1,000! I had similar colors (except navy instead of silver) and had gold chairs with navy cushions.

i think folding white chairs are perfectly fine and actually fits your venue well but when you described your wedding theme as glitz and glamour, i’m not sure the folding chairs really say glitz and glamour.  you have to decide how important each detail is to you.  as i guest, i would not care if i sat on folding metal chairs, white platic patio chair, or a fancy ghost chair.  i’m just happy to have a chair.

not sure about your dessert stand question.

I think you should ultimately pick which one is more comfortable. That being said, like Mrs. Cooper said, the chivari chairs will look really nice in pictures, though your guests won’t notice. Would $300 really be a huge hardship for you or do you think you can trim a little here and a little there to make it work?

By the way, what’s a dessert stand? Like the cake stand or a dessert bar, where the guests get a bunch of different desserts?

I LOVE chiavari chairs. I was so excited that our venue had them…and then I sat in one. The back is up and down straight and there’s only a little padding on the seat. The chairs that came with the venue were thickly padded on the seat and the back and had a slant to them, so we went with those. The upgrade was technically free, since we were given a $500 decor credit, but we opted to use it on lounge furniture and uplighting instead.

One of my things when looking for a venue was making sure that it had Chivari chairs. I just LOVE the look of them for some reason. They are elegant in my opinion. We lucked out with gold ones at my venue. It HONESTLY isn’t a big deal what type of chairs you use, what matters is that when you walk into the room you are WOW’ed – I couldn’t imagine walking into my venue for the first time and not loving it. Do whatever makes you feel most comfortable and reflects your taste.

The chairs at my venue are plastic white lawnchairs, the ones are yours look alot nicer!  Why waste $300 for a chair?

Don’t worry about chairs! The most important thing is, your guests (and you too!) will remember how your wedding felt, not how it looked. Could you spend that money instead on something your guests would enjoy? (The cost of that upgrade is the same cost as getting a photobooth if you buy a Groupon for it!) Chairs are so minor, I don’t remember the chairs from any wedding I’ve been to!

@Mrs. Cooper:  color twins!

We really want the gold chivari chairs for our reception (colors champagne/ivory/gold, light pink and navy) – the venue chairs are black and i cant stand them. theyre the last thing i want to be staring at from the head table. Im partially ocd and that would just irk me all night. I WISH ours were only $300. were looking at about 2k for new chairs! NUTS.

I would totally keep the white fold up chairs!  IMO, I think that chiavaris are overdone, and they’re NEVER comfortable for folks to sit on all night if they’re not big dancers (i.e. some of the older folks).  I think that the folding chairs would look really pretty with the champagne sash, too!  With your colors being ivory, champagne, silver and light pink (all light colors), I think that the dark chairs would stick out like a sore thumb lol.  🙂
