I’m in the decor phase of my wedding planning and I am going Pinterest CRAZY! I am currently stuck on whether or not to rent chairs for our venue… my question is, are you spending money to upgrade to nicer chairs for your venue?? We are getting married at Alhambra Hall, which is a rustic ballroom type venue with wooden beams and a tall ceiling. My biggest concern is the venue looking too “boring”. I am hoping to add some height and dimension to the space… and I feel that Chiavari chairs would add character to the venue. I’ll post pictures below to make things easier!
This is the hall with the pretty chiavari chairs!
This is the hall with the chairs that are included with our caterer.
Am I being too picky?? All of the seasoned brides that I have talked to said don’t spend money on chairs because people don’t notice! Then all of the newlyweds that are planning a wedding like I am are saying they are changing their chairs to Chiavari too!
PS- it would cost roughly $700 to add them to our decor… and our total decor budget is $2500, so it’s quite a big chunk.
I’d love to know your advice!

ashleymarie843 : I would use the chairs that come with the venue. They are attractive and more than likely are more comfortable than chiavari chairs. I also think they go better with the wood beams.

ashleymarie843 : not worth it. I understand your love for chiavari chairs – they’re gorgeous. But they’re also hella expensive, and you have lovely chairs as-is. The chairs that come with the caterer are already dark wood – so you’re going to get the nice contrast against the white linens that you have in the first pic. Honestly, I think the big difference here isn’t the chairs…it’s the actual picture. The first picture had better lighting with better styling, and you’re giving credit to the chairs. But it’s not the chairs making the big difference – it’s the quality of the picture itself. Save your money girl!!

I actually like the chairs that come with your venue.
One of my top priorities when choosing a reception venue was actually that it came with decent chairs. But then we still ended up getting Chiavari chairs for our outdoor ceremony, where there were no default chairs available.

I would keep those chairs

Do it! I love chiavari chairs – I feel like they give off a Romantic and classy feel to the room.
My venue comes with banquet chairs and I’ll be renting chiavari. Will cost about $1100 (have to use an outside vendor) but I think it’s worth it!
That being said – I don’t mind the chairs your venue comes with – i just can’t stand the banquet ones at mine. Here’s a pic of the banquet chairs
and same place different angle with chiavari

We paid over $2K for our chiavari chairs and normally I would say go for it since I love them.
In your case, you should stick with the chairs that are provided…they match more with your venue.

I agree your venue chairs actually go pretty well and they aren’t those ugly banquet ones another poster had – which is why she’s swapping them out. It looks fine, save the money and allocate the decor money elsewhere.

I’m renting chairs but that’s because the chairs that come with our venue are samsonite folding chairs – not sexy. Your venue chairs are actually quite nice so if the budget is already tihgt I would deprioritize the chairs.

ashleymarie843 : I’m normally for chiavari chairs and besides photo and video, that is my one other splurge. But in your case, I think the chairs are quite cute. Just be thankful they are not the metallic folding ones or the standard banquet chairs where you need to cover them with white bulky ass fabric covers. Now those are hideous.

No one will care about your chairs unless they are horribly uncomfortable. Save your money. I’m sure it can be better spent elsewhere.
Side note, this may be really judgy of me but whatever… if I was a guest and found out that someone spent an extra $700 on chairs that was otherwise unnecessary but had bad food, a cash bar, or SOs weren’t invited I would be seriously unimpressed that their vision came ahead of guests. Obviously I don’t know the rest of your plans but I would put the extra money there.

Stick with the chairs you have! They’re beautiful.

Look at pictures of the venue with actual butts in those chairs! It makes a huge difference, and that’s what it will look like throughout the night, even when people are on the dance floor (then hopefully the music is so good no one is judging your chairs). The only thing you’d miss is that classic “here’s my venue without any guests in it” photo with the vision that you want.
Personally, I feel as long as they are comfy and attractive my money is better spent elsewhere.

Ok thank you all for being my voice of reason!! Sometimes you just need someone else to talk you into your senses 😃
chocochai : oh trust me girl, we live in the South. The bar is open and the food is delicious. I’m totally not worried about that part! 😉

ashleymarie843 : I don’t think $700 is worth it. I did upgrade my chairs a bit. I upgraded from the normal plastic ones to plastic ones with a cushion. My mom suggested I do so for the older people in the crowd. I guess once you get older a cushion is appreciated. So, you might want to conisder that, but I would find a better way to spedn $700
