I recently informed a good girlfriend on mine (who i spill all my wedding suprises to early) I had finally decided to do charity favors as well as a small shell lei necklace. I was secretly expecting her to shower me with words of encouragement and to tell me what a good person I am. Instead I had to explain what a charity favor was and it turns out she was very unimpressed with my genious idea.
She proceded to tell me guests “expect to be pampered” and in short they deserved more than candy, a shell necklace and for me to tell them money I could have spent on them was going to poor neglected animals. As an added note we are having our reception and ceremony on a boat, where my guests will enjoy a sunset cruise as well! Now i realize I’m pouring it on kinda thick but who’s in the wrong here? She told me to spend the money I get from the wedding on animal donations and keep the money for favors to buy something “nice” for the guests.
You don’t have to agree with my side but I’m begining to think maybe I need another favor for the guests. HELP!

I love charity favors (in fact that’s what we’re doing). I personally feel like people don’t need more stuff.

I am not a huge favor person. I mean, really, you already hosted them for dinner. I personally as a guest am just grateful for that. I don’t care if I have a takeaway other than silly pictures and fond memories. Most favors are useless trinkets anyway; the popular ones are usually food. If you are already giving them candy and a themed necklace, I don’t see why you should give something else. I know I would appreciate that as a guest. A donation to your cause is a nice way to be thoughtful for the needs of others on a day when many act like their wedding is the most important special thing in the world.
I personally will either do cookies or a donation or both.

I am in your corner for wanting to help out a local animal shelter!! I do not think your guests will see anything wrong with that as well, it is your wedding do what you believe is the best way to go 🙂
PS- Cute card!

Favors in general are after thougths to guests. No one will miss not getting a “nicer” item. And, personally, I love charity gifts. The card is cute, and it sounds like a lovely reception.
