I’ve never done P90X but based on what my friends have said, it’s not geared towards males but it’s just a little more intense than Chalean. I’ve had Chalean for over 2 years and it’s GREAT! I highly recommend it! Based on my understanding, they are 2 very different workouts but maybe someone who knows both can comment on that. Chalean workouts are shorter (~30-45) mins than P90X so it might be easier to fit into your schedule. The focus is on “muscle burns fat” so you hear that a lot throughout. I don’t do it regularly anymore, but when I did the full 90 day program, I definitely dropped weight and noticed much more tone in my body than from when I would just do cardio.

I own P90X but my Fiance is the one who does the workouts more. I do Turbo Jam or Turbo Fire (also by Chalene). He likes the workouts because they are a great workout, but are they fun? No not really. They are all about an hour or some even longer, I believe the yoga is an hour and a half. Yoga or the stretch workouts sound like fun, but I think they might be some of the hardest! It’s definitely a killer workout, and if you really want to focus on strength then go for it, but if you want to burn calories then you could probably find an easier workout that would help you achieve that.

I personally recommend Turbo Fire though. The music is really fun, it’s kind of dancey but really it’s a great kickboxing workout. It burns an insane amount of calories but because you are squatting, kicking and punching through the entire workout you build muscle and tone really quickly. I lost 12 lbs in my first two weeks of doing that program and I didn’t even change my sucky eating habits lol. So I swear by those, they are way more fun and I keep doing it as a result. Oh and the workouts range from 15 minutes to 55 minutes so there is always something you can do if you are short on time, unlike P90X.

But don’t let that short 15 minute workout trick you! It’s soo intense and I feel like I did at least 30 minutes when I’m done lol 🙂

No that is not correct. All workouts are for everyone. LOTS of women do P90X me being one of them. The only difference is if you want to be lean or if you want muscle. If you want muscle you use heavier weights and do less reps if you want to be lean/tone you use lighter weights and do more reps. I am doing p90X now. It is super intense but the results are awsome. Go check out Youtube there are video’s about both on there.

I love Chalean Extreme. I completed the first two phases (first two months) and lost almost 12 inches.  I am SOOOO much more toned and lean. The scale didn’t move much for me though, which is the only bummer.  I may try Turbo Fire next because I love Chalene Johnson.  I’m kind of scared though 😉

@Kristen0128: Let me know what you think of it.  Right now I’m doing Turbofire (and I love it) and I was thinking of getting Chalean Extreme after I finish Turbofire because I really like Chalene Johnson!

These are all great workouts and Chalene Extreme and Turbo Fire are very intense. If you really want to turn it up on cardio you could also try Insanity. The great thing about all of these workout programs is there scalable to your fitness level and there are modifications you can do for each one. P90X is also great for people looking to tone up. I like a mix of P90X and Insanity. Between 600 -1200 calories burned on average depending on the workout. It is hard to beat the combo and it is still way cheaper (gas wise also) then the gym. p90x burns and hurts … but I love it.  I’ve only done it a week and a half so far and am already feeling improvement in my energy and tone.

I’m also a chunky girl, so it’s a lot more challenging for me.  I find the exercises fun and diverse enough to not be boring.  Also, the boys on the videos are easy on the eyes.
