I need crafty help! I need chalkboards but can’t find them anywhere in my area. I know I can use chalkboard paint, but how does this work? If I find a frame I like, what do I paint the paint on? Can I just use a blank sheet of paper? Or do I need something else in the frame to paint on?

I put thin wood in the frame and painted the wood. As a tip— the spraypaint goes on a lot nicer than the stuff you apply with a roller.

I just taped the frame and painted directly onto the mirror/glass. Totally worked great and saved a couple of steps.

I bought a plaque from the dollar store and just used blackboard spray paint I bought at Michaels (don’t forget the 40% off coupon). A few coats and it was good to go. I wouldn’t use plain paper as it’s too flimsy, I would use plywood cut to size, or maybe even foamcore would work (you can buy sheets of it at the dollar store, worth a try!).
After you get your final coat on, let it cure for 24 hours and then prime the board by covering the whole thing with chalk and wiping it all off, THEN you can write on whatever you’re doing 🙂
