- Wedding: September 2014
Long story short, my fiance and I got engaged in July while vacationing in Italy. I started wedding planning immediately, knowing that we would not be able to afford to have a wedding before 2014. Plus, my fiance’s brother is getting married in July 2013 in Hawaii (where he lives), so my Father-In-Law didn’t think it would be wise to make family travel twice in one year. Most of them of from NY and we live in NC. I became obsessed and stressed to the max over planning this wedding. All i could see is $$$, and how we would have to curb our travel adventures to save for our budget wedding of 80+. I read book after book, talked my coworkers/MOH/anyone who would listen about all the things I was worried about and all the debt I was worried about us going into for our wedding. I’m a planner, budgeter, and easily stressed so this wedding planning business was no joke. I wasn’t eating, I’ve been having trouble sleeping, I would get extremely emotional over nothing!
This weekend my fiance sat down with me and said that the most important thing to him was being able to marry me, and not have me compromise so much on things we’ve wanted. Neither of us were thrilled with our venue or reception site. He knew how upset I was about having to look for wedding dresses under $300 because that is all the budget would allow for. He said that he wants me to find a dress that I feel beautiful in and not have to give up on the one thing a girl thinks about from the time she is little (oh, he is the best!). He also didn’t want us to have to forfeit our little trips to make 80+ people happy for a 6 hour event. We were compromising too much for things we wanted. So we decided the best option for us is to elope with our immediate family (my parents and brother and his parents and brother&wife). Our dream wedding destination has alway been Charleston. Does anyone know of a budget friendly (>$1500) ceremony site where we can get married. We want to get married outside, with flowers/greenery/garden or plantation. No beach or water wedding, and nothing inside. I love Middleton Place, but do they do small, intimate weddings for a reasonable price? Any Charleston brides that have ideas, suggestions or input I would be so grateful.
I must say I have not stopped smiling all day. I feel like this huge burden has been lifted off me and that I can have a fairytale wedding with the people that matter most.
