I definitely wouldn’t consider your venue coordinator to be your wedding planner, but it does make sense that you would meet with him in the coming weeks to make sure that he understands your wedding plans and schedules a tasting.  It sounds like he got thrown into this position with no training from the previous coordinator and needs some time to catch up.  Given that you are six months out from your wedding, I would give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

I would let it go. He is returning phone calls and he seems to be getting up to speed.

I don’t think wedding venues have an obligation to inform clients of staff changes when there is lots of time to meet with the couple before the wedding.
