SellyJo:  My Fiance proposed on Christmas (evening, like 10pm) and I wanted to be sure to tell everyone I’m close to BEFORE putting it on facebook. So once we talked to everybody I went ahead and announced it and changed my status, it’s was Dec 26th 🙂

At the time I became engaged I was very active on FB and updated stuff all the time. Now, I probably would not do anythibg at all. FB is not a government entity and you aren’t required to update it with every action that occurs in your life.

I was in a smilar situation to you.  We were waiting for the ring to come in and only told our VIPs and where waiting on updating FB once we got the ring in.  We eventually updated before the ring came in (it was delayed two weeks) because while my VIPs kept it a secret, my FI’s parents told EVERYONE.

Updating facebook was for us the fastest way to let people know.  My family is HUGE (we are talking 100+ with cousins and cousin’s kids) and enough of them are on Facebook to spread the word to those who are not.

I waited until I told my close family and friends in person (or over phone/skype for those living elsewhere). Then I updated facebook.

I never posted a picture of my ring, so if that’s all you’re waiting for, I don’t think it’s necessary.

I waited about 3 weeks to a month, we waited until we had told all of our family and close friends before we put it on Facebook for our larger circle.  I didn’t want anyone close to us to find out through facebook, but it is a good way to let your extended social group know.

I think we did it the next day after telling all our family.

My friend just got engaged recently and hasn’t changed hers yet, but she’s getting a lot of congratulations on her facebook along with the “congrats on what?!” and “what’s happenening?!” posts. So it seems a little odd to me that she wouldn’t just update it by now.

Also I never posted a ring pic so if you want to post one I would wait to update your status until then, so you can do it all at once.

I sent a mass text with a picture to my parents, Mother-In-Law, SIL, and DHs godmother right away. We changed our FB status a few hours later.

We changed it after we told certain people in person/phone.  Once our close family & friends knew, then we updated it. There are some things that some people shouldn’t find out on Facebook.  I actually was going to wait a few days longer than we did, but Darling Husband got really excited about it, which was weird since he rarelygoes on Facebook!

We made sure to tell certain people in person/on the phone before we put it it on facebook…we told family in person, and then family who lived far away over the phone…along with close friends. Then put it on facebook. We didn’t want family and close friends to find out over facebook. We got engaged on a Sat evening and put it on FB late sunday night maybe?
