Hey bees. It’s a dreary Monday morning where I’m sitting! I know this may seem like common sense to some, but I really need some helpful tips about the whole name changing process. We got married in February but since I work full time as a teacher, I’ve just had no time to get down to the places I need to. But now with the summer approaching it’s at the top of my to do list (right after study for my ceritification exams and pass!)
From what I’ve heard, I know my order for the places I need to go are social security, license and then bank.. And everything else to follow. I am planning on visiting both the social security office and DMV in person with an appointment. I think that’s necessary at the social office but I’m not 100% sure.
If I’m wrong about any of my above information or if you have any useful tips for making this process shorter or easier I would really appreciate it. And I’m in Florida, if that is pertinent information.

You probably won’t be able to change your name at your banks until you get the new driver’s license back.
Other than that, you have the right idea. Social security and DMV. I didn’t have to make an appointment at either but I’m not from Florida.

Thanks. I know I’ll have to play a little bit of a waiting game in between those to actually receive the new info. Do I need my new social to go to the DMV?

Yes, you need your new social first in Florida. When you go to the DMV, you will need to bring a ridiculous host of information. They have a checklist on the FLDMV website.

I changed mine in FL, and it wasn’t a big deal. Once you get your new driver’s license, you can also change your teaching license, which I did.
