So I went to the Social Security Administration Office yesterday and changed my name. It was quite easy. They said that my new card would come within 2 weeks. Does anyone know generally how long it takes? Does it really take 2 weeks?
Also, I’d like to change my driver’s license to reflect my new name asap. Can I do this without my social security card? Can I just bring them my marriage license? Also, same question with the bank. Can I just bring my marriage license without my SS card and change my name?

I think as far as your license goes, the rules vary by state – your DMV probably has this information listed on their website. Banks, etc. all seem to have different rules. Some just need the marriage license, some want your new social security card, some need DNA samples and a lock of hair from your firstborn

Yes, I believe you can change your name at the RMV as long as you have alerted SS. Oddly enough, when I went the the RMV in Chinatown, they didn’t even ask to see anything. I had brought my SS card receipt, marriage cert.. the whole nine yards.
Also, I don’t think it take that long to get your SS card. Mine took maybe a week.
