We are getting married in New York (Buffalo) and are going to do the following: I am going to take on my fiance’s last name but keep my current maiden name as an additional middle name and my fiance is going to add on my maiden name as a middle name – we haven’t done all the research yet, but any idea of what the process to do that will be? and how much it will cost?

New York is one of the few states that allows men and women to change their last names upon marriage, but I’m not sure if you can change your middle name at the same time.
Scroll down to ‘Surname options’.
Call your county court to make sure, but if you can’t change your middle names directly via marriage, you’ll have to get a court order allowing you to legally change your name (has nothing to do with marriage). This is a lot more complicated and expensive ($210 per person), and will take a lot longer (took us 3+ months from start to finish).
If your fiance is just adding your name as another middle name, he’ll definitely have to get a court order to do so.
