You would need to take your ring into a jewelery store and ask them. Since the head of the ring is intragraded and not a peg head, they will not be able to switch the head out for a larger one. A half of a millimeter is bigger difference than you would think, plus the 8mm stone would be deeper. But a jeweler should be able to tell you if they could fit an 8mm stone in that setting. Just for size comparison, here is a 5mm moissy, and a 5.5mm moissy. The half a millimeter size difference is quite noticeable.

I will add that some heads are meant to accomodate a range of stone sizes (albeit not a wide range) so I agree with Mrs.SparkleBee – take it to a jeweller who will be able to make that determination.
