I’ve always wanted to keep my last name, but after discussing how important it was to my Fiance, we’ve decided on a compromise. He did not really like hyphenating, nor did I since my last name is 11 letters. I said I would take his last name, as will any children we have/adopt. However, if I chose to, I can add my last name to my middle name so I can still feel the connection to it. I never thought of doing this until my coworker told me she was considering it and I realized it made me more comfortable changing my name.

@kittyfinn:  I feel the same way as you. It’s a tradition that I just strongly disagree with.

I HATE my maiden name and can’t wait to dump it.  I have no qualms about trading it for a nice, easy to spel, easy to pronounce, normal name.

And I want to be an RN, so there are several extra steps for me to change it with the CA Dept of Health.  Worth it, my name is a real pain.
