My local jeweler charged me $45 to resize and set a stone, and another local jeweler reset my freined’s stone for $50. And I live in a major northeastern city.

I’ve had probably 10 loose stones set and depending on the jeweler it’s been between $30-$125. $1000 is way over the top.  It is a prong setting? If so, it’s shouldn’t be that much.  I had a bezel set and it was around $100.

I’ve paid $100 at a Couple jewelry stores. Free if you buy the setting too sometimes.

My jeweler it depended on size. I think it was $140 for a 1.3ct stone.

Mine was free, because I bought both the diamond and band at the same time. I am going to see soon about having some other diamonds I have reset, so I really hope it is not that pricey. Do you think she meant the price of custom-making a new ring and then setting multiple diamonds?

Depends on the ct weight usually, because the insurance needed for liability depends on that.  I would figure $100/ct.  Platinum could be more, like +$50-$75.

Mine was also free, but we bought the band and the diamond at the same time as well. (Jared’s)

futuremrsc2be:  WHOA that’s a really steep questimate.  My jeweller resized my ring, replace the head with a new one, and set my stone, and it cost just over $200 for everything together (including paying for the new head which was $160.00 on it’s own).  He said that his general cost to set a stone is around $40.00.  If someone is looking to get a stone set, it is best to just call around to different jewellers (I prefer the smaller independant jewellers as they often have a bench jeweller on site permanently) and get quotes.

There was no charge at my jeweler because I bought the setting from him (but not the stone). Otherwise I was prepared to pay about a hundred.

I think the initial charge to set my stone was $45 at Fred Meyer Jewelers and then we purchased the lifetime warranty for $150 or something so we get lifetime cleanings, replatings, replacement for lost stones, repairs, etc.

ETA: We purchased a loose stone outside of FM and the setting from FM.  They warranty is only on the setting but basically covers the ring and the stone is covered by insurance.
