Soliciting opinions here!
So…I always thought it would be nice to “register” at a nonprofit meaningful to me in addition to at a few traditional stores (Macy’s, etc.). My MIL was worried that this would be basically like “throwing money away,” which she thought wouldn’t be wise given the economy, etc. We both feel very comfortable though — we’re older (30), have established careers, and plenty of stuff. Sure we always want more, but we don’t *need* it. MY main concern with adding a nonprofit option is that our guests might be turned off by it, or think it’s uppity, or feel bad about it in some other way…or that it might be too public a display of charity. On the other hand, I think it’s a cool idea and if other people liked it and used it too it could spread and that would be lots more money for charity.
So my question for you guys is:
a) Do you think this is a good idea or no?
b) Would you buy a gift off the registry, donate to the nonprofit, give money, or something else if you were my guest?
