We’re less than a year out from our wedding and we still have nothing booked and I’m starting to get very burnt out, not to mention panic a little.
It seems like every venue we’ve considered is wrong for us in one way or another. We have ruled out having either ceremony or reception in downtown Charleston because that place stresses me out (so many people!) and I don’t want to deal with that on my wedding day. Also, we have some elderly guests who can’t walk super far and going downtown means walking no matter what. Our other problem is that our guest list only has about 50 people on it and I’ve found that so many places around here are more suited for much larger parties. And we’re not religious, so churches are out. I just feel very stuck. It would be ideal if the ceremony and reception could be in the same place, but that’s not absolutely necessary.
Does anyone have any suggestions for wedding venues in the Charleston area? It doesn’t have to be actual Charleston, it could be North Charleston, Summerville, Mt. Pleasant, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Our total budget is about $6000, so nothing too extravagant.

The island house on johns island is pretty, but pricey at $4000. There is a house on Shem creek in mt pleasant that might be perfect for your guest list! Its called the cottage on the creek.

@Southerngirl4234: Thank you for your suggestions! I just checked the rates for the Cottage on the Creek and their rental fee alone is almost $4k, too.

Would you be willing to do it on an “off” day (Thurs, Fri, Sun, etc.) That is going to save you a ton of money. Check out this link-some of them are reasonable while others are still pricey on a Saturday. http://www.ccprc.com/index.aspx?NID=1504

Alhambra hall in my p–the rental is 2500 but would inclAbe ceremony antee exception site, all tables and chairs. You bring in everything like caterers, bar, etc, saving a bunch of money.
Goldbug Island right next to Sullivan’s Island wheeeeee we’re having our rehearsal dinner, but a friend of mine got married there. The rental fee is 1350+150 cleaning fee, but on a Sunday is 850+ cleaning fee. It’s definitely not like super fancy but again provides tables and chairs, and the view outside is sooooo pretty (where you’d have the ceremony).
Also, I know you said you didn’t want downtown charleston buttttt I would check out the executive room and harbor deck at the aquarium. I think it holds 75 or so. The view is really pretty and since it’s not smack right in the middle of downtown, there is plenty of parking and not so busy. I believe the rental is 1000 but you do have to use their caterers (although with 50 people, might not be so bad. We almost got married in the main aquarium.) their coordinator is sooooo helpful.
lastly, what about renting a beach house on IOP or Folly and having it there? want allow up to 75 people. At least on Folky, you can have your wedding on the beach for next to nothing. Or some have big backyards overlooking the water.

Haha wow, I just re-read my post from earlier that I had typed on my cell phone and realized that AutoCorrect really screwed me over–apologies for my (many) typos.
Since I wrote that post this morning, I think we’re going to look into having our day-after brunch at the aquarium on that deck, it’s just sooo pretty! Here’s a link to a wedding that was there:
Also, here’s a link to a goldbug island wedding:
Also, if you at least want a backup, the deposit for Goldbug is refundable up to like, 30 or 60 days in advance. Might just give you some peace of mind 🙂
