Hi bees! I am newly engaged! I am from Charlotte and my fiance is from Richmond. I am open to having a wedding in either place although I know typically the wedding is in the brides hometown. Being that we are paying for the wedding ourselves I think we can have it where ever we want. I love traditional, classic weddings! I also love new, modern weddings. I have listed some venues and a picture of each. Which one would you go for? I included a poll for venues 1-8! Feel free to leave any comments! Has anyone had experience with any of these?
1. Separk Mansion
2. Foundation of the Carolinas
3.Harvey B. Gantt Center
4. Mint Museum Uptown
5. Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens
6. John Marshall Ballroom
7. Virgina Museum of Fine Arts
8. Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

- Wedding: September 2015 - Country Club
I’m completely biased as I just visited my future in-laws over Easter and saw the Lewis Gitner Botanical Garden last weekend, it was SO breathtaking. They had a wedding there the night before and I even said to my Future Mother-In-Law “If it weren’t for the fact that you two (FMIL & FFIL) were the only ones in VA this place would be my dream venue!” I couldn’t get over the dogwoods. I was so in love!

The Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens are absolutely gorgeous! I actually looked into having our wedding there, but with transportation, rentals, catering, etc., it was just out of our budget.

I picked 5 because I love love LOVE botanical gardens and the romantic feel it gives to a wedding. I Also liked 6 for the glamour it can provide.

@housebee I love the DSBG but I have heard you have to purchase every little thing and thats what makes it expensive. I haven’t visited yet and according to the website its not out of my budget but you never know with all of the extra charges.
@kristina1213 Im so glad you can give me your true input since you were just there. Again, I haven’t seen them yet but the pictures are gorgeous. I’m really not an outside kind of person but I love that it comes with the tent. I was thinking about draping the tent and using it for the ceremony as well.
@lovelymuse I also like 6 for the glamour. This is the only one I have seen in person and it is really gorgeous. Although my finance says it may be a little to traditional for his taste. It provides a different feel from the others. I’m so torn! lol.

I’m in Charlotte and have researched and visited all but the first venue you listed (And many others too). Feel free to reach out with any questions you might have. I will say that the Foundation of the Carolina’s and the Mint Museum have a very modern feel to them (they both have lots of modern art in them). The pics you posted are misleading as in the beautuful white piping and drape is not included and very pricey (have to rent through lighting or rental agency). The room itself is very basic which is good because you can dress it up how you like it, but may be bad on the wallet. They both have a nice outdoor balcony area with a great skyline view. FOC is actually constructing a glass enclosure right now over their balcony. DSbG is beautiful and there are lots of areas in the garden to choose from. I guess it depends on the style you want to go for. They are all beautiful and I think you’d have a great experience at either 🙂

Thanks so much @adhtarheel! Do you know when the FOC will be done with the construction? I’m not an outdoorsy kinda girl so I’m kind of leaning against DSBG unless I could have ceremony and reception inside or have ceremony tented outstide but I’m sure that can get expensive as well. What venue did you decide on? I don’t think any of these venues are really inclusive. Is it better to keep looking for an inclusive venue vs. one you have to get everything outside of tables on your own?

Just as an update I ended up picking a venue close to wear I live in Northern VA. I am getting married at the Belmont Manor in Elkridge, MD. It is a beautiful location!
