Mill:  I get it– I am a researcher too  and love to look into everything. I ended getting this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000O6YCZY/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1420036138&sr=1&keywords=basal+thermometer

Why? It was cheap and the most popular. I figured it couldn’t be horrible.

I like that it only has one soft beep when it is done and has a memory recall. My normal routine is to temp whenever Darling Husband or the dog wakes me up. I temp and then go to the bathroom, record the temp, and wash the thermometer. Then back to bed. If I don’t have to go to the bathroom, I record it in the morning.

This is not the perfect approach– I know you are supposed to take your temp at the same time every day, but I also know that waking up at 445 am on Saturday isn’t going to happen. I have tried testing my middle of the night temp with my first thing in the morning temp and they are almost always the same. So this works for me.

I got mine at Rite Aid. It does the job, but I wouldn’t recommend it exactly. Nothing special about it. But I’m happy with it.

Mill:  Thanks for posting this!  I’m a researcher by nature as well and been having trouble picking out a thermometer.  The one I keep on eyeing is this one: http://www.amazon.com/Terumo-Electronic-thermometer-backlight-ET-W520ZZ/dp/B005X0TDSM/ref=pd_sbs_hpc_7?ie=UTF8&refRID=07KWZ4BGJNV0S3CBY5Y0

Really nice features and only takes 20 seconds to record a temp, however it’s a little more than I would like to spend and the directions and display are in Japanese.  A reviewer did do a translation, but I don’t want to refer to her review everytime I need to figure something out.

I’m thinking of just getting the Mabis that Pollywog has to start with and just like you said, if it doesn’t work out, I’m only out $8.

vip0802:  Mill:  I use the Mabis and have been for the last year and a half. It’s awesome! About a month ago I thought it started to die, so I ordered another one. Well, I was wrong because it’s still working great! So I have the new one still in the packaging ready for this one to lose battery or stop working. I’m pretty sure it’ll be good for a while though!

I just got the CVS brand one and it worked fine. My only recommendation is put a fresh battery in as soon as you buy one. I didn’t and mine started giving me really weird temps after the first week or so, once I replaced the battery it worked great.

I’ve been using this thermometer for almost 2 years. It does beep, but its not loud and my husband never hears it. I actually set my alarm and chart at 4am every day, and go back to sleep. Then at night, I turn back on the thermometer and record the temp from the AM on my iPad. For me, this gives the most accurate temps with the least interruption of sleep.

Also, you don’t need 1/100th unless you are charting in Celsius.

I bought a cheap one at CVS – it doesn’t temp to the 1/100th, but you don’t need it to do that for charting. Mine only beeps when it’s done and it stores the last temp, but it isn’t backlit – that would be a nice feature to have!

Mill:  I’ve had it for maybe 4 months? A friend has had hers for a year and hasn’t had any complaints either.
