On our 4th cycle TTC, and I’d really like to punch my chart in the face this month. As you can see here I thought I O’d on CD20 and was SUPER excited because we were actually traveling and couldn’t BD between CD19-22. But then my temp dropped back down to pre-O temps. I’d say the room we were sleeping in was warmer than at home, but I temped there on CD20-22, and my CD20 temp didn’t seem affected by it. The past two months I O’d on CD22 and CD23 (approximately), before that it was CD27 and CD40ish (getting shorter since stopping BC). I stalked a bunch of charts on FF and it seems that there are many that sort of shoot below the coverline and back up, but this gradual decrease has me feeling doubtful that I O’d. Not one month has been the same as the other, and I am getting really frustrated with charting! Pretty sure I am going to throw it out the window this cycle.
I guess I’m wondering if anyone has any insight? And just wanted to cry about it a little… gaah. Thanks to anyone who read this!
EDIT to add that we were traveling within the same time zone!

@terisa2012: could it be a Corpus Lutem dip?
Q. Temperature Dip at 5DPO?
A. This is your Corpus Luteum dip. This is NOT at all related to an implantation dip. You will see this dip happen at (some women) between 2- to 5 days passed ovulation. This is when your estrogen dips (drops) and your Corpus Luteum takes over produce more progesterone. Notice how after the dip your temp will shoot back up?

I second what @FreckledFox: said. It seems like the fall-back has been hitting all the charters really hard this month. My last cycle I had a HUGE fall-back and a couple of bees on the Charters thread have had these too so far (they’re in their TWW right now). Know that it’s very possible that you did O & the temps are just dropping a little because of the CL. The coverline is a really arbitrary line so at the end it doesn’t mean anything for a couple of days of LP as long as the trend is above.

@FreckledFox: @MrsRugbee: Thanks ladies. You sound more confident that I may have O’d than I do, which makes me feel better! 🙂 I couldn’t really find any solid technical information about the “corpus luteum dip” so I am not sure I believe it… I know that there is a secondary estrogen surge that could cause lower temps, but I didn’t think they would return to my pre-O levels. The corpus luteum is responsible for the rise in progesterone, so Amanda Bears explination doesn’t make sense to me, because the initial temp rise is already due to the progesterone created by the corpus luteum, no?

Hi lady. I undertand your frustrations, my cycle is super inconsistent too. It’s possible that you haven’t yet O’d. Two cycles ago, I had a rise in temps making me think I O’d, then a drop and then I really O’d. FX something conclusive happens for you in the next couple of days so you know. Did you get any other symptoms on CD20 aside from the ewcm? Do you feel like you O’d? Good luck love.

@BOGB: Thanks so much! I know your cycles can be tricky, and honestly I admire your patience! I think I am just hitting a wall with charting this cycle. I would have popped in to the charters thread but when it’s already 300+ posts in I kind of feel like I’m interupting because I haven’t been following along. 🙁
As for other symptoms, I’m not sure.. I don’t have any consistent signs that indicate O (like boob pain) and I’ve had a hard time picking out a CM pattern. I did have a bit of an acne breakout which I read usually happens after O, but I honestly haven’t been paying close enough attention in past cycles to say it’s a sign… poo. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. I am just frustrated because I haven’t been feeling good (head cold) so we haven’t kept up the BD schedule since I thought I O’d already… this is where charting gets me in trouble!!!

@terisa2012: Just popping in to say I *think* you O’d, too and you’re hopefully just experiencing a fallback rise. And feel free to join us in the charters thread! Some people pop in here and there and some are there all day, every day – either is fine. 🙂

I hope you did O, but I’ve had it happen more then once that my body has geared up and not followed through with ovulation until later.

Typically with a fallback rise, the temperature should return to higher levels the next day. Here you had three days of dropping temps before it shot back up. You also are missing a lot of temps before possible O, so FF can’t set your coverline accurately. If the temps on CD13-15 were higher than 97.1, then your coverline would be higher too, and FF would likely have taken O away with too many dips below the coverline. The high temps on CD21 and CD22 could be related to your travels. Did you stay up extra late, drink, sleep poorly, or do anything else out of the ordinary?
You won’t know for sure until you see what your temps do over the next few days. It could be that you O’d on CD 20, but the three days of decreasing temps makes be think it’s more likely you O’d on CD25, but you’ll need more temps to confirm. I’d keep having sex just in case. This might be one of those cycles where you have to wait until your LP is finished to see where you O’d.

@hardtoconcentrate: Thanks dear! I know you ladies probably wouldn’t mind but I still feel like I’m butting in when the thread is moving along quickly.
@dodgercpkl: Thank you!
@twofortheshow: Those were my thoughts too about the fallback rise. I didn’t really do anything out of the ordinary as far as drinking or staying up late, and I slept really well. The last time I traveled my chart was a mess with a rocky LP, but I traveled across two time zones. I did fly this time as well but it was in the same time zone. Thanks for looking at it, you’re right about the lack of temps not helping (I was trying to take the light approach to charting this cycle).
Today I had some lovely dark pink CM on the TP. If I did in fact O yesterday I suppose that could be O spotting, but I’m more inclined to think that it’s my wacky LP hormones. Does O spotting really happen? I have spotted in every LP so far, but never this early. Wishful thinking is that it’s implantation spotting. 😉

@terisa2012: aww there is no such thing as butting in on a forum! we’re talking abot dogs and snow (or at least I am). It’s more for Charting! SO please come back, we miss you!

@terisa2012: I’ve never had O spotting, but I think it’s normal for some women. I also spot during my LP, starting on 9 or 10DPO. It’s no fun! I hope you have good luck this cycle!
