Does anyone else chart, but have an erratic sleep schedule?
DH and I have been NTNP since the end of August, but I would like to start charting and using OPKs soon.
Unfortunately, I work night shift (11pm-730am) 4 nights a week. On the nights I work, I come home in the morning and go to bed around 830 and wake up around 330pm. Usually when I’m off, I like to sleep at night and wake up early, so I’m not wasting my day away. But it looks like if I want my temps to be accurate, I’m going to have to stay on the same kind of sleep pattern everday, right? Will it matter if my wakeup time is 1-2 hours off on some days?
Does anyone else work night shift and successfully chart?

I used to work 4 on, 4 off, 2 days, 2 graveyards, and couldn’t pull of charting for the life of me. Even now that I moved to a straight days schedule (specifically because I was blaming the stress/shifts of my job for our lack of conceiving) I feel like my body still doens’t “get” a straight schedule and still have temps and stuff all over the place.
Sorry I don’t have a more positive perspective, but if you look on fertility friend’s galleries, I think they actually have a filter you can apply to look only at charts that indicate “shift work”. What exactly that means… I’m not sure, but might be a good start??

Try checking your CM as well. It will be hard for you to keep temp tracks if you are on an irregular schedule. I struggled with temperatures, but found CM charting really easy once I learnt the different types and meanings.

This is hard. I mainly work days but work night shifts a few times a month. I agree with the other poster that said get to know your CM. OPK’s are also useful.

I work 3 nights a week and have kids who I have to get up with on the other days so my schedule is crazy and there is no way for me to make it more regular. I tried temping this cycle but it was all over the place and I’m pretty sure my O date is different than what FF is telling me. If I don’t get a BFP I think I will just chart CM and see how that goes.

I was charting and had a crazy sleep schedule for a month or so. I’m now 29 weeks pregnant. So, I won’t be trying that again.

Hi there! I am also new to charting and finding it a bit too much cos I wake up several times at night, have difficulty sleeping etc, but reading the info in Fertility friend there is one question that addresses your concern. Hope it helps! and GL!

I’ve found for me that as long as I have at least 3 hours of solid sleep, I can temp and it’s accurate. I was working shifts when I first started temping and just never got out of the habit. lol
