I was in the same boat. I felt like I *should* pay for their dresses, not burden them with $200 taffeta getups. My colors were impossible to find.

Do you know anyone handy? My mom and I picked out a pattern from Simplicity called "sew easy" and she made them. We bought Casablanca bridal material from Joann’s (probably coulda done it on sale but they had very little left and it was a discontinued color) for $9.99 a yard. Each dress used…2 yards. The dresses, total, cost about $25 each plus some labor from the madre. But she said it was only a few hours here and there. I had SIX dresses for her to make, PLUS sashes! I could have sewn them myself, but she really really wanted to do it. They’re really high quality material too.

They’re "cheap" but not Chintzy. There’s a difference =]

Also, anything off the rack. Nordstrom is having thier half yearly sale RIGHT NOW. Do you have a color picked? IF not, you could use this as your jumping point for colors

Sign up for J. Crew coupons, and then watch their sale section like a hawk — I got a great dress for my ‘maids for under $90 each!

Macy’s also has some very cute dresses that would work well for bridesmaids, and they tend to start off at a more reasonable price point ($150 or so).

Oh and PS Jcrew…if you’re a student or a teacher, you get 15% off your order in store AND free shipping. I heart JCrew.

Go simple. That’s the best way to do it on a budget. Nobody needs silk satin and nobody wants taffeta. We all want something we love and can hopefully wear again!
