I’m going to second going with silver. Silver needs to be cleaned often to keep it shiny and it can be rhodium or platinum plated so it could match your platinum band. It is a softer metal than gold but i have a sterling silver band and it’s holding up pretty well, plus I have a warranty that i can exchange it for a new one once a year if need be.

You should check out moissanite.com. They have a clearance section full of rings under $1000 plus extra $50-200 off. They’re gold or platinum plated silver. You could get a similar princess solitaire and see if a jeweler or moissanite.com will just rotate the crown for you.

rishellz: If you are on a budget avoid buying Australian, even for plain gold you will be paying way too much (another Australian here). But platinum from overseas retailers, it is considered an odd luxury in Australia (especially as retailers don’t tend to sell nickle white gold, so we have cheapers white metal options). If you aren’t set on wearing an engagement ring aftet marriage and want to get engaged yesterday…get a cheap ring/placeholder and decide about a long term one when you have picked your bands!

Check out this etsy retailer. Good prices and reviews ^_^ https://www.etsy.com/shop/Tradecraft

For that same money you could find something much nicer on eBay, perhaps a vintage or antique ring made of natural materials.

You already have so many responses but I kind of have the same mindset as you (and I am in the same process as you, but a bit further along), so I thought I’d give my two cents. Have you considered a sapphire at all? My man bought a sapphire for my ering from Mountain Momma Gems on Etsy, and they have amazing, reasonably priced, conflict free stones from Montana. We went that route because I’m not at all a diamond girl, but it ended up saving us a ton of money!

And I also only want to wear one ring after the wedding, but we decided to have the sapphire set in a really low profile setting and have the ering be my only ring. I might eventually add side stones to it in lieu of a second band. Hope that helps! Congrats on your impending engagement =)

rishellz:  it would really depend on the design. I initially wanted a super intricate ring, but the quote (from a very high end jeweller) was $10,000. But sometimes custom work can be cheaper than non-custom.

I suggest getting some quotes because those are free. Maybe give them a budget so they know what they are working with.

We saved a lot of money by buying a diamond online and then having it set into a ring in the UK.

Buy a diamond or moissanite.  Put it in a low-set bezel setting that is very smooth.  Bezel settings are much more secure than prongs.  Low settings don’t snag or get in the way of what you are doing.   Smooth settings are so comfortable you don’t know you are wearing them.

Oh, and put your ring on the household insurance so that if you lose the stone it doesn’t cost too much to replace.

So it appears you want a kite set princess cut solitaire. This has a kite set round stone, but I would contact the seller and ask if you could get a kite set princess cut solitaire instead.

Oh!! This seller does platinum…and cheap too!! He does custom so I would just show the picture you listed and get a quote!! Love this option!! Obviously this isn’t the setting you were looking for, $495 for a platinum ring is amazing, definitely request a custom order!

693 euros…$773 us, that’s slightly cheaper than what you had said earlier. Hmmm I will keep looking.
