Did you look in Fairmount? Urban Saloon has a private party room, and their regular isn’t expensive at all.

Ooooh, try Tacconnelli’s (best pizza in Philly) and I saw a friends photos from her Rehearsal dinner there and it looked awesome — and BYOB.  Also, we decided to have our Rehearsal Dinner at our home in the city, but before we decided that, we were thinking of using Zorba’s – it’s a Greek restaurant on Fairmount, right across the street from the Eastern State Penitentiary.  DELICIOUS greek food (my favorite in the city) and they said they’d give us the 2 back rooms and the cost was like $25/person — and, also BYOB.

Some other suggestions:  (All BYOB and in Philly) La Viola (Italian, near Rittenhouse), Il Cantuccio (Italian, No.Libs), Kanella (Greek, Gayborhood), Dmitris (Greek/Seafood, different locations throughout the city), Jamaica Jerk Hut (Carribean, 15th and South Street – across from Bob and Barbaras bar), Pura Vida (Guatamalen, No.Libs).

I don’t know where in the suburbs you are moving to but my wedding was in the Downingtown/ West Chester areas so I found a pretty good place for my rehearsal in Thorndale, PA.  I actually had a rehearsal lunch because it was cheaper to have lunch than dinner.  So we had an early rehearsal at the church around 11am and then lunch afterwards.  I paid like $13 per person and it included non- alcoholic drinks, soup, entree and dessert for that price.

Ruffani’s restaurant.  http://www.ruffinis.com/

It is in a shopping mall so it looks “okay” on the outside but once your inside, it’s great.  It’s really nice inside.

You could try places in Chinatown or maybe Upstairs @ Di Bruno Brothers. I am trying to think of some other places…

There’s always Buca di Beppo on 15th Street.. great for large groups! Also, I used to work at Paradigm/Dolce in Old City and they can do large groups if you give them enough advanced notice.

My daughter also suggested Triumph, Plough & the Stars and Buddakan. Good food and they have parties there all the time.

If your crowd is up for vegan food, you could try Govinda’s, right at broad and south.  They have a nice upstairs which might fit your group size. The food is awesome, but really slow.
