    It’s better to use credit card if she accepts it. When you pay with a check, the only way to get your money back with a check is by going to court and getting the vendor to actually pay back the money. However, with a credit card, you usually have the credit card company on your side and they can automatically refund your money if you were defrauded.

    if you’re worried use a credit card not a visa backed debit card.

    I would prefer to use a credit card, but I find many small business only take cheques or cash.  If she takes credit, go with that!

    @RayRayFurious:  This really doesn’t matter. You have to prove that a contract was breached to dispute anything and usually card companies are only going to deal with this sort of things when it’s tangible goods, not services. You’d end up in court no matter what I think so just pay her however she accepts payment.
