So I posted a few weeks ago asking for opinions on looks for my upcoming hair trial and wanted to give an update as it went completely unexpected. This was my first time with this stylist who was recommended by a friend of mine. I immediately liked her. She’s a very vivacious, outgoing woman who looked incredible. Great hair, makeup, clothing. I showed her what I was thinking about (soft, romantic updo with curls and braids) and we got to work.
From previous experience with updos, I washed my hair the day before so it would be a little dirty. Well, apparently for my hair, one day wasn’t enough. After straightening out my natural curls, it was still too soft and wouldn’t hold the curls she was trying to put in. Then, we realized that it was too thin for the braiding I was wanting. We tried using fake hair or a different kind of braid, but it just wasn’t coming together.
I was about to call it and start looking elsewhere when she said, “Before you tell me what you think, I want you to know that I don’t like it. This is not the quality of work that I’m capable of. Now that I know your hair, I want to pick up some things and meet next week to try again.”
I was so impressed by her honesty and integrity that I was happy to give her a second chance. She didn’t charge me for that trip, even though I was there for about 2 hours. We were chatting afterwards and she was showing me examples of things she likes to do and they were exactly what I secretly wanted, out of the ordinary, a bit avant-garde, but still classy. I gave up on it because I didn’t think I’d be able to find a stylist to do that sorta thing.
So we met again the following week, and ended up with something completely different than what I imagined and I loved it! She told me to leave my hair two days dirty this time and instead of straightening it, she just brushed out and teased my hair, put in two donuts and started sculpting. The outcome was amazing. I’m so glad I decided to go back. She did a fantastic job.
