Wow. That is insane. I am usually in Walmart late at night for that exact reason, if you go like right after work too it is always nuts at ours.

@Katnisseverdeen:  Haha I know what you mean! The closest grocery store to our apartment is a Giant, and Darling Husband and I often text each other “giant fail” with no further explanation, because none is needed. Every time we go there, it is a fail. For whatever unknown reason, anyone with food stamps within a ten mile radius seems to only shop at that Giant. There are three other stores within a mile, but I have never ever seen someone pay with food stamps at any of them — only at this Giant. And of course, paying with food stamps takes F.O.R.E.V.E.R.

And they have a rule where if the cashier is under 21, they cannot sell you alcohol but have to call a manager to turn a key to approve the transaction. This often takes 4-5 minutes. Nowhere else have I seen such an absurd rule.

Needless to say, I hate that Giant with a burning and fiery passion! I don’t know why we ever go there — what is the matter with us that we don’t learn our lesson?!?!?!

I’m sorry it bugged you.  She should have chosen a less busy time for all the price matching and everything.

I disagree. If you can’t go to the store in the middle of the day without offending someone, we are all in trouble. The long weekend doesn’t start until tomorrow. Today is still an ordinary weekday.

None of us know anyone else’s circumstances. She may work steady evenings or nights and the middle of the day when her kids are in school is the only time for her to shop. She is obviously trying to stretch her budget as far as it will go and congratulations to her for having the skills to do that.

If the lines were too long, it is the responsibility of the store to open another checkout line.

Sometimes we all just need to lighten up.

@iarebridezilla:  Hahah I think I go to the same Giant (it’s horrible) – is it in Arlington!?  haha.

I hate the people who refuse to bag their own groceries when there’s a line and no one working at the bagging stand.  Seriously, it’s your food, put it in a bag!  I always seem to get stuck behind them…

I don’t do coupons much, but I certainly do at our wholesale club! I usually end up saving around 40 bucks if I’m getting a big order. I have never really paid attention to when I’m going, I just go when I need to. I don’t really feel bad about people having to wait behind me either actually. That money I’m saving buys a lot of diapers ūüôā

@Katnisseverdeen: I get it, it’s not really anyone’s fault but it’s annoying when you just want to run in and run out and get stuck waiting forever in line!

@abbie017:  Haha, nah this one is in Alexandria. I only ever go there to grab last-minute things, so I’ll be waiting in this heinous line to buy like two things. So many time I have just given up and walked out. So. Many. Times.

As someone who uses a LOT of coupons … I’d blame a lot of it on the checker…I don’t price match at Wal Mart because most of the checkers there don’t get trained or something because they never know what to do. The first time I used coupons there I had a 6 cent overage after the coupons and the lady gave me 6 cents back(which isn’t part of their policy) and another time the checker made a fuss out of the candle not being the brand for the coupon without even scanning it first. She made things take a lot longer by calling around departments to make sure the candle was the right brand and then when she scanned the candled and the coupon they both went through with no problem.

Anyway the other stores I go to who have competent people working for them can get me and my coupons through in a jiffy and when it has taken 20+ minutes it’s because the person behind the cash register doesn’t know what they’re doing

@iarebridezilla:  Hahah okay.  Apparently it’s just all Giants then!  I actually had to stop buying produce and meats at the one near me because I kept seeing mold on the things in the store, or the fruit would go bad the next day.  Now, it’s only packaged food at Giant, and everything else at Whole Foods.
