I’m american and my fience is Chinese Malasian and his family wants to do a tea ceremony before the rehersal dinner. Does the cheongsam have to be red or can it be a different color? I’m thinking of wearing the cheongsam to the reheral and dinner as well.
Are there any other traditions that I can do?

Mine was gold with a beaded phoenix on it. It was one of three that my mother wore to her own wedding.

@ke_murphy: Yeah, it has to be red. Gold is fine. Definitely no blue nor purple as these are funeral colours.
Maroon is for already married women. (Grr, cos I loved this colour) and pink is for concubines, lol. I was wanting to wear pink cos I look terrible in red.
