So the venue we are looking at apparently has just updated their pricing to include chiavari chairs. It used to be $7/chair but now the room we are looking at is $2000 on a Saturday or $1500 on a Sunday with the chairs. However, they did tell me that because they just changed the pricing I could opt for the old chairs (banquet chairs) at the old pricing, which would be $1500 on a Saturday and $1000 on a Sunday.
That being said, I think the banquet chairs they have are horribly ugly.
They more or less look like this:
However, I don’t know if it’s worth it to spend $500 on chairs. I’ve heard of people spending a lot more. Since it’s only $500 we can afford it but since we’re on a tight budget I still have a hard time justifying it when it could go to something else or I could just save on it. Plus, I’ve also heard recently that the chiavari chairs are pretty uncomfortable.
Would you spend the extra money for the chairs?

100% yes definitely. I chose a hall with Chiavari chairs, otherwise I’d be renting them at $7 a chair, or worst case scenario, chair covers… but chairs really make a difference, IMO.

Even though I think it’s stupid people spend a lot of money on chairs (or more so – stupid that the wedding industry charges so much), if you can afford it, I would do it. I hate to admit it but I do think chiavari chairs make a huge difference in the overall look.

Definitely. They really add to the overall look.

Those chairs are only pretty in photos. They suck ass to sit in. People say you only have to sit in them for 20 minutes. That’s not true at all. If you don’t have a cocktail hour, you have to sit and wait. Then you have to sit through the dances, speeches, waiting for dinner, cake cutting, ect. The chairs feel very cheap to me and I don’t get why they are so expensive.
However, if you can afford it and want it, then go for it. I would rather do those chairs than chair covers!

@Cem0930: I had the exact same issue with my venue. You only really have two options either get chiar covers for the banqut chairs and go ahead and get the chiavari. either way you will need to spend some extra $$$ so I would go ahead with the chiavari since they add elegance to the whole decoration. 🙂

I always think they add a nice touch. However, I would look into covers just to see which is cheaper then choose from there. The banquet chairs alone are not attractive. One must be mindful of the budget.

I had the same banquet chair/chiavari chair/chair cover dillema until… I found these beauties!
They’re “garden chairs.” Around us, they cost about $4 each to rent, which is what we would pay to rent chair covers, and I like them more.
Maybe these don’t fit your vision, but I wished someone would have pointed this option out to me sooner. I spent over a year stressing about the “is it worth it” question for the chaiviari chairs.
Good luck! 🙂

I say yes. We are in the same situation. I really hate chair covers, they look really clunky and awkward to me. I think I’m paying 6.50 a chair, which includes the delivery, but we have to put the seat pad on. Seriously, the rental company will charge you $1 a piece to put the pad on, how crazy is that!?! We can do it ourselves.

@FutureMrsBondo: The “Stock” option at my venue were garden chairs but they squeak and if you have any “bigger” guests they can be a little precarious. If you get cushions on the chivari chairs they are perfectly comfortable.

I actually upgraded to a chiavari i felt it was more cohesive and professional, you only get married once do it!

If you can afford it they look beautiful, but is it really worth $7 per chair?
