Not comfy at all. I’m super petite (5’0 100 pounds) and I felt like my butt was almost too big for the seat cushion and there was no padding. The back is also super straight so it gives you perfect posture, haha. For the record I didn’t sit at them at a wedding, my university has them for the lobby study tables :p

However, I doubt your guests will be sitting on them for too long, so if you like the look of them and don’t mind the cost I would go ahead and rent them!

They are very uncomfortable in my opinion.  They feel flismy and cheap, and are too small even for me! (I’m 115lbs)  I can’t imagine how uncomfortable they’d be for someone who is heavier!  Plus they are so expensive to rent!

If you don’t like they look of banquet chairs, just go with chair covers. Chair covers really soften the look of the room.  Plus if you add a sash to each chair in can help tie in your wedding colors.

There’s a rental company in Michigan that offers these chairs for the same price as Chivari chairs- they are way more comfortable. They are called “Venice Chairs” and come in mocha (below), silver and black

Chivari chairs are not THAT uncomfortable.  I don’t think people will even really notice.  I had them at my wedding and no one complained :oP

I think they look beautiful in pictures and are worth the splurge if you have the dough.  And on the upside, maybe uncomfortable chairs will get more of your guests on the dance floor!

I had chiavari at my wedding this past weekend and I thought they were perfectly comfortable. Not sure why everyone else doesn’t….maybe the cushion on theirs was worn down?

I would not say they are comfortable… but if they have a cushion they’re not uncomfortable either. I mean people are sitting in them to eat dinner, not relaxing to kick up their feet and watch a movie ya know? 🙂

i don’t think they are comfortable, but they aren’t terrible either. it’s funny, my venue gives you chiavaris for free and Fiance asked if we could switch to something else. he was shocked when i told him people pay hundreds of dollars to upgrade to chiavaris! we’re sticking with them because i refuse to pay extra for chair rentals, but if they gave us something else i certaintly wouldn’t pay to upgrade to chiavaris….i’m all about whatever comes free with the rental!

My venue has these chairs and they are not flimsy at all. Maybe there are cheaper knock-offs out there? Or there are varying degrees of quality?

I don’t think they are uncomfortable. I’m excited to have them at my wedding because I like clean lines in decor.

@absolutbettie: lol, that’s a great point, i bet uncomfortable chairs will get more people out of their seats to dance and mingle!

I hate ’em, and I don’t understand why people spend so much to upgrade to them. Ugh.

The are bearable but you are definitely choosing form over function if you go with them.

@PinkPinstripes: i don’t think they feel flimsy, just uncomfortable on your back….but they force you to have good posture (which i never have) so maybe that’s a good thing. i don’t foresee getting to sit a lot at our wedding anyways.

@pb and j:Oh I agree with you about the straight back 🙂 It was a post above yours that called them flimsy. Of all the Chiavari chairs i’ve sat in, I wouldn’t consider them “flimsy”.

To be honest, before I started planning my wedding, I never even noticed what chairs were used 🙂 Unless they were something really heinous.
