Ive seen pictures of it, I think it would look beautiful.  Do you already have an outdoor venue picked out?  Maybe you could ask them if they have done it before.

*Sigh* I still wish I could afford the Chivari chairs… but at $4 pp extra (plus service charges!) I’m thinking it’s not worth it for me.

@marigold – while I know an extra $4 person adds up, especially if you have alot of people, thats a great price for chiavari chairs!  Rental companies charge $8-$12 each for them in the LA/OC area!  Are you getting that price through your venue that owns them?

FH has been to events where they used Chiavari chairs in the grass with nothing underneath them and said they didn’t sink at all.

Recessionistabride — I’ve seen a lot of photos of chiavari chairs used outdoors on grass (both ceremony and reception) and it looked beautiful!!  You bring up good points about the chairs sinking into the grass, though.  Maybe ask the rental company if this is an issue?

Marigold, would you mind sharing what rental company is offering chiavari chairs at $4?  I’m also getting married in the LA area and have been looking around for chair deals.  Thanks so much!!

I know.. right after I posted that I saw links for $12 chairs in LA! The venue owns them. It’s just another $600+ on something most of our guests won’t notice, and if I told Fiance I’d rather do that than the jazz band during the cocktail hour (the one thing he wants and that we didn’t initially budget for) he might not be too happy with me. 😉
